Midterm
This project was inspired by Ye by Kanye West. I was experiencing a depressive episode, the worst i have ever personally experienced and was exploring ways to bring myself out of it. I attempted several shows, movies, and albums. Late on that Sunday night/ Monday morning I started listening to Ye. Almost immediately the spark to create a visual version of the album came to me. I spent the next hour or so creating the mock ups and starting the process of planning the necessary shots. I then went to the equipment cage that week an checked out a DSLR camera, lenses, and tripod. I took several photos at my house, stagingas necessary and getting creative with the tools I had on hand. Some shots were taken in TCNJ classrooms sneaking into rooms and using them until interrupted by a meeting or class. My friend Joely is the female subject in these photos. Music besides Ye was also a key part of the creation process anywhere I was music drove me there.
END v1
END v2
This is an exploration of contrasting internal motivations. A violent instinct, a peaceful desire, and a grey insecurity. layers were used to integrate the three imaginary selves. into the mirror but separate them from reality. This was shot in my home bathroom using equipment borrowed from the equipment cage.
Duality
The photos were taken in my living room using a pink blanket as a background to accelerate the cropping process. The message is for battling natures. Good and evil. Spirit creatures are representing a monstrous rat and a great ape. they are powerful and equally matched.
Why not Dance
The idea here is that there is a version of my living life.and other versions doing other things ignoring what they really want to do. My original idea had the dancing version in a diffrent color shirt and also featured many more versions of myself looking around. The second version of my partner dancing on the side was an impromptu addition not in my original design. It was just such a pure moment of fun that I wanted to include it. I have thoughts about playing with color to mute some of the yellowish tinge and bring out the read but I haven't done this to the existing image.
Go
The emphasis is on the hole in the door and the locks on the door. Filters were used on the land beyond the door to make it more fantastical/ unreal/ artificial. The hole is meant to be enticing so it is bright compared to the completely blacked out wall. But it is still not meant to be fully inviting, there is risk beyond the door.
I Choose You
This was the picture I was most excited to complete. It
Escape
This was the first image I finished while working on this project. The couple is running away, leaving the past trauma, and pain behind. and the sun is rising on this relationship.
Blood On My Mind
The vision is blurry on purpose. There is an element of confusion, and disorientation.
